After kicking off their 2013 fall season with a successful showcase at the UC Davis Aggie Invitational, claiming the title for both the singles and doubles brackets with a combined 21-10 record, the Oregon men’s tennis team has high hopes for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northwest Regionals hosted by St. Mary’s College in Moraga, Calif.
The indoor tournament started today, Oct. 18, and will run through Oct. 22. The team sent 8 players: Senior Robin Cambier, who won both the main singles and doubles bracket in the season-opening tournament, junior Daniel Sardu, sophomores Kevin Farin and Brent Chin, and freshmen Alex Marcincowski and Jayson Amos.
Cambier will advance to the third round after beating UC Davis Adam Levie 7-5, 3-6, 7-6(1) in the second round. Cambier is scheduled to play Fresno State John Darmstaedter tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. PST.
Sardu will also advance to the third round after his second round win 6-1, 6-4 against Pacific’s Miguel Diaz. He is scheduled to play California Andre Goransson tomorrow at 2 p.m. PST.
Both Kevin Farin and Jayson Amos lost their second round matches against Sean Kolar and Sam MacNell respectively. Farin suffered a leg injury and withdrew within the second set.
Chin and Marcinkowski lost their first round matches but will play in the consolation bracket. Chin will play his first round of consolation against University of Washington Dragos Puscalau on Saturday at 4:00 and Marcinkowski has advanced to the third round and is scheduled to play Santa Monica College Seif Eisherbini on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. PST. Chin and Marcinkowski will also play doubles together in their first round against Santa Monica College John Stormans and Will Martin tomorrow at 8:30 p.m. PST.
Cambier and Sardu will continue lead the Ducks in the main bracket as they fight to advance tomorrow.
