Not Just Another “Nutcracker” at The Hult Center

While the holiday season may be filled to the brim with sugar plums, All That! Dance Company offers a slightly different bite. For the past eight years, this local dance company has brought the classic story of the Nutcracker to life in an entirely unexpected way. Army men dressed in fatigues march onto the stage to the Rocky anthem, “Eye of the Tiger”, while cinnamon candies tap dance to a spicy version of “Hot, Hot, Hot”. Over 200 youth dancers will take the Hult Center stage on December 14th & 15th to bring a contemporary twist to this classic tale.

With some dancers as young as two, the costuming, staging and transitioning of hundreds of dancers through a professional show is a bit of Christmas magic in itself. Older dancers step-in to help with younger ones. When a teenage dancer, playing the lead role of a Snow Sister, was asked her favorite part of the show, “Corralling baby snowflakes…” was her response as, with a smile, she scooped up a toddler in a sparkly tutu and placed her back in her spot. Rehearsals are currently underway with the first full-cast dress rehearsal on November 17th. Tickets are currently on sale at the Hult Center for $ 18.00.

Dates and times are: Saturday, December 14, at 7:00 p.m., and Sunday, December 15, at 2:00 p.m.
