springfield bridgeSPRINGFIELD, Ore. — The historic Willamette River Bridge in Springfield is about to get a facelift, and ODOT wants to let drivers know about some scheduled closures and delays coming up.

Commonly called the Springfield bridge, it’s located on the west end of Springfield, and is part of Main Street and OR 126B. Repair work will only affect the westbound bridge, and not the eastbound lanes headed into Springfield on A Street.

Over the years, corrosion and rust has damaged the bridge, so ODOT crew plans to repair and replace some of the steel.

There will be three complete closures of the bridge. The first is Monday, February 24. The bridge will close at 9:00 p.m. and then reopen on Tuesday, February 25 at 4:00 a.m.  The bridge will also completely close during that same time frame on the evenings of Thursday, April 3, and Thursday, May 15.

Construction on the bridge will last through June, with crews working Mondays through Thursdays, between 7:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Motorists should expect some delays, with occasional lane closures. The sidewalks will be closed frequently during this time.
