Will Oregon Ducks Look Ahead And Miss An Opportunity at Oregon State?

The Oregon Ducks have played the 2014 season as good as they come. They enter the game with Oregon State at 10-1 and are ranked second in the top four of the College Football Playoff. Quarterback Marcus Mariota has surpassed nine-thousand passing and two thousand rushing yards for his career and Freshman Running Back Royce Freeman has one-thousand yards on the ground in his Freshman season, a first for the Ducks.

Could it all be unraveled today against Oregon State? It will be Quarterback Sean Mannon’s game at Reser. He has become one of the most prolific passers in Beavers History with over three thousand yards this season and he is one hundred and sixty passing yards away from sixteen thousand in his college career. I’ll say that again, sixteen-thousand. Oregon Quarterback Marcus Mariota can surpass ten-thousand with a huge day today and five-hundred fifty yards through the air.

My focus on this game will be the Quarterbacks. Mariota is the dual threat, but if you have someone who can catch the ball a passing threat can be just as dangerous. The game is at Reser Stadium this season and the home crowd would love nothing more than to put a wrench in Oregon’s post season plans.

With a win the Beavers, currently at 5-6, would be able to make some post season plans of their own. Six wins is the minimum required for bowl eligibility. Couple that with possible hometown crowd momentum and it could make for a dangerous night for the Oregon Ducks and Marcus Mariota. Corvallis is again the place where dream seasons go to die. Look to Arizona State just a few weeks ago for the perfect example.

Oregon could also be distracted to the task ahead of them in facing Arizona for a second time this season in the Pac-12 Championship Game. Will these distractions cause a headache for Oregon? Probably not, but in the game of college football possibilities and probabilities are the name of the game.

Oregon and Oregon kickoff from Reser Stadium today at 5pm Pacific time on ABC. EDN will have Live Coverage of the game today via the #EDNSports on Facebook, Twiter and Instagram.
