According to investigators, on Tuesday, a white, 2000 Ford Ranger stopped partially on the roadway in the westbound lane, and the driver – now identified as 89 year-old John Pisan of Klamath Falls – stepped outside of the vehicle for reasons unknown.
A short time later, a GMC Sierra pickup heading west on highway 66 struck Pisan and the Ford Ranger.
Later the driver, 53 year-old Jeffery T. Wood of Klamath Falls, told troopers he could not see Pisan nor the truck because of sunny conditions.
Pisan was pronounced deceased at the scene. Wood and his passenger were not injured and were wearing seat belts.
