Inmate Death Investigation Underway at Lane County Jail

Eugene OR – Oregon State Police  are investigating the unexpected death of an inmate in the Lane County Jail at the request of the Lane County Sheriff’s Office.

Preliminary information indicates that on Friday, February 06, at approximately 12:11 p.m., Deputies and medical personnel at the Lane County Jail were performing routine duties when they checked the cell of 46 year-old, TROY L. BAILEY, of Eugene, in the intake/housing area.

Deputies discovered BAILEY, who was alone and secured in his own cell, unconscious and not breathing. Deputies and medical staff immediately initiated CPR and continued for approximately 30 minutes until BAILEY was pronounced deceased at approximately 12:44 p.m. Initial inmate death investigation suggest BAILEY died of an apparent suicide.

The Lane County Sheriff’s Office has requested the Oregon State Police lead the investigation into this incident and will take any media inquiries also. The investigation is ongoing and no additional information is available at this time. No photos are available for release at this time.

Bailey is the second Lane County inmate to die of an apparent suicide this year.

In January,  ADAM SIX was found dead of an apparent suicide at the Springfield Municipal Jail.
