Eugene Police Release Causes of Death in Murder-Suicide

EUGENE, Ore. — Eugene police have released the causes of death for two people involved in a murder-suicide in late October.

Police responded to the house of Athena Slavin on Compton Street in West Eugene around 3 a.m. on Oct. 27.

Police said they had received reports of a burglary in progress. When they arrived, they found the 43-year-old Slavin’s body inside.

The body of her ex-boyfriend, Jeffrey March, was found at a nearby pond. Investigators said it appeared he killed himself.

On Monday, police said Slavin died of a gunshot wound, and Jeffrey March also died of a gunshot wound. Police said March shot Slavin, then shot himself.

The Eugene Police Department said the case is now closed.
