Three Officers Shot on Sunday

A devastating weekend for police officers in our country. Three were shot in the line of duty, in three different states on Sunday.

There is currently a manhunt for the male suspect in the shooting death of Detective Benjamin Marconi.

Officers said the suspect walked up to Marconi’s patrol car while he sat inside and shot him in the head. The suspect then ran away.

Authorities in San Antonio are devastated by the recent shooting.

“Most families will be celebrating the holidays, SAPD will be burying one of its own because of the ultimate act of cowardice by a suspect who will be caught and brought to justice,” said Chief William McManus, with the San Antonio Police Department.

Police describe the suspect as a black male possibly in his twenties or thirties. They do not know the motive behind the shooting.

Springfield Oregon Police said they are thinking of the Marconi family and have changed their Facebook profile picture to show an image of Texas with a blue line going across the state.

They said their job is dangerous every day, and all they can do is remain vigilant.

In St. Louis earlier this morning, police killed the suspect who ambushed and shot an officer twice in his face while sitting in his cruiser at a traffic light on Sunday night.

According to ABC News, police were chasing the suspect on foot earlier Monday morning where he then shot at them, injuring no one.

Police then surrounded the suspect and shot and killed him.

The Mayor of St. Louis said he appreciates and respects the work of police.

“This tells you how dangerous of a job it is and tells you how much we have to appreciate our police officers,” said Mayor Slay. “We have to understand the difficulties they go through, the sacrifices they undertake to protect us and protect our neighborhoods.”

Police said the wounded officer is a sergeant who has been on the force for 20-years and is expected to survive.

The third shooting was in Sanibel, Florida.

Officials said the suspect shot Jarred Ciccone in a drive by shooting earlier Sunday evening and fled the scene. The incident happened while Officer Ciccone was conducting a traffic stop.

Police said they took the suspect into custody after he shot at officers.

Oregon State Police tweeted earlier this morning that their thoughts are with the families and friends of the three officers.
