Charlton Earns Pac-12 Player of the Week

EUGENE, Ore. – For his role in helping the Ducks beat No. 24 Stanford, Joshua Charlton has been named the Pac-12 Player of the Week. The UO standout tallied two wins against the Cardinal, including a top-40 victory in singles play.

Against Stanford, Charlton recorded a three-set win over #36 Arthur Fery at No. 2 singles. The result was Charlton’s first win over ranked opponent this season and gave the Ducks a 2-1 lead in the match. With the victory, Charlton improved to 12-5 in singles play this season and evened his Pac-12 record to 3-3.

In doubles, he and Quinn Vandecasteele—the No. 42 team in the country—posted a 6-3 win against the Stanford team of Tristan Boyer and Timothy Sah in the top spot of the lineup. The Oregon duo is 8-2 this season.

The Ducks’ 4-2 win over Stanford (April 16) was the program’s first since the 2017 season, and fourth overall. Oregon lost the doubles point but responded with four wins in singles play to clinch the match. The victory also secured an undefeated home record this season.

Tuesday’s selection marks Oregon’s second weekly honor of the season. Emmanuel Coste was the Pac-12 Player of the Week (March 23) after an undefeated week against Seattle U and Utah.

Oregon (15-5, 2-5 Pac-12) will be the No. 6 seed at this weekend’s Pac-12 Tournament, and face USC in Saturday’s quarterfinal. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. (PT) at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego.
