Hocker Recognized for NCAA-Leading Times

///

EUGENE, Ore. – Cole Hocker is the Pac-12 Men’s Track Athlete of the Week after his standout performance at the Hayward Premiere. This marks back-to-back conference honors for the Men of Oregon on the heels of last week’s recognition for Xavier Nairne and Ben Milligan.

Earlier this week, Hocker was named the USTFCCCA Men’s National Athlete of the Week. He is third Oregon man to win that award this season. Fellow The Bowerman Award Watch members Charlie Hunter (Feb. 2) and Cooper Teare (Feb. 16) were recognized during the indoor season.

In his first outing of the outdoor season, Hocker recorded NCAA-leading times in winning the invitational sections of the 800 and 1,500 meters at the Hayward Premiere. He began the weekend with a time of 3:38.99 in the 1,500 meters and returned the next day to run 1:46.60 over 800 meters. In addition to the national lead, Hocker’s effort in the 800 meters put him at No. 7 on the all-time program list.

Hocker was one of four UO men to dip below 1:50 in the 800 meters at the Hayward Premiere, pacing the quartet that also featured Luis Peralta (1:47.55), Cooper Teare (1:48.99) and Reed Brown (1:49.95). Peralta’s time put him at No. 10 on the Oregon top-10 list.

This marks the first time since 2013 (Cabral, Greer) for two Oregon men to earn Pac-12 weekly track honor in the same year. Two other times the same Duck has won twice in the same year with Devon Allen in 2016 and Cravon Gillespie in 2019.

Through their first two competitions of the outdoor season, the Ducks has collected 11 top-10 national marks with NCAA-leading performances from Hocker and Milligan in the men’s high jump.
