On the eve of the NCATA championships, three Ducks named All-America

EUGENE, Ore. – With less than 24 hours until rivals Oregon and Baylor meet for the third time this season in the National Collegiate Acrobatics & Tumbling Association National Championship, Payton Coon, Alyssa Hew and Addie Lacewell have been named to the 2021 NCATA All-American Team.
 
The Ducks join Azusa Pacific and Baylor with a team-high three All-American selections. Lacewell, a senior from Naperville, Ill., and Coon, a graduate student from Portland, both were selected to the team for the second time. Hew, a junior from Markham, Ontario, Canada, claimed her first All-American honor.
 
In addition to claiming All-America honors, Lacewell is the Specialist of the Year. A base, Lacewell earned the honor after her performance in the acro event this season for Oregon. She competed in the five-element and seven-element acro heats for the Ducks, helping UO to a score of 9.75 or higher each time. In the five-element acro, Lacewell helped Oregon record a perfect-10.0 in the team’s home win over then No. 1 Baylor. The heat also scored a 9.90 on the road against Baylor, a 9.85 vs. Arizona Christian, and a 9.80 vs. Azusa Pacific. In seven-element acro, the heat scored a 9.95 twice against Baylor and Azusa Pacific. Lacewell was named NCATA Athlete of the Week on March 11, and was Specialist of the Week on April 1.
 
In addition to the All-America recognition, Coon, Hew and Lacewell also joined 25 other Ducks on the NCATA 2021 Academic Honor Roll. In addition to the three All-Americans on the honor roll, the other Ducks’ who qualified are the following: Alena Aucker, Sara Buchner, Makena Carrion, Caitlynn Emick, Olivia Gamboa, Emilie Henningsen, Kaylene Iriye, Ashley Jamison, Katie Keogh, Bailee Lamson, Gabby Lange, Alexis Lindsey, Emily Lorimor, Italie Macchiavello, Camille Mantoani, Logan McBain, Caelin Niebergall, Karly Nowak, Kierstin Rouse, Sydney Szarka, Lindsey Tarr, Brianna Vago, Alexis Weller, Zoe Williams and Cami Wilson.  
 
No. 3 Oregon will face No. 2 Baylor in the semifinals of the NCATA National Championships on Thursday at 5 p.m. PT in Waco, Texas. The two teams split their first two meetings with Oregon winning 281.635-280.660 in Eugene on March 6. Baylor evened the series with a 287.430-283.885 win in Waco on April 10. Oregon score in Waco was a season high for the Ducks. Both of Thursday’s semifinals and Friday’s championship will air live on ESPN+. The Oregon-Baylor winner will play the winner of Thursday’s other semifinal between No. 1 Azusa Pacific and No. 4 Hawaii Pacific (12 p.m. PT). The championship meet is Friday at 5 p.m. PT.
