Tjen Named Pac-12 Player of the Week


SAN FRANCISCO – Oregon true freshman Janice Tjen earned Pac-12 Player of the Week honors following a pair of top-50 singles wins over the weekend against California and Stanford, the conference announced Thursday.
Tjen picked up a dominant win over No. 41 Haley Giavara of Cal on Friday, winning 6-1, 6-1 to put up the Ducks’ first point of the match. She followed that up with a 7-5, 6-3 win over No. 48 Michaela Gordon of Stanford on Sunday to put up the second point of the match and help Oregon to its first win over the Cardinal in program history.
She also teamed up with Lillian Mould to clinch the doubles point on Sunday vs. Stanford, winning 6-2 at the No. 2 spot to give the Ducks a 1-0 lead. Tjen and Mould lost for only the second time all season in doubles on Friday, dropping a 6-4 decision in pairs play.
The freshman from Jakarta, Indonesia has been dominant all year long at the No. 1 singles spot. She improved to 14-2 on the year in singles play and now has three wins over opponents ranked in the ITA Top 125. Tjen has also gone 12-2 in doubles play including going unbeaten through her first 13 doubles matches, paired with Mould in all 14 of those at the No. 2 spot.
Tjen is the first Oregon player to win conference player of the week honors since Alyssa Tobita in April of 2018. She is also currently ranked No. 121 in the ITA singles rankings.
