Gueant, Moriyama Earn Pac-12 Postseason Honors

///

A pair of Oregon players earned Pac-12 postseason honors, as Tom Gueant earned second-team recognition and Yuki Moriyama was named to the all-newcomer team the conference announced Thursday. Moriyama also earned honorable mention all-conference recognition while Owen Avrit and Nate Stember were named honorable mention all-newcomers.

Gueant led the team with a 71.54 scoring average and shot par or better in 17 of his 28 rounds this season while shooting in the 60s five times. He turned in three top-10 finishes – after having just two in his career prior to this year – and delivered a counting score in all but one round this season.

The native of France turned in back-to-back third-place finishes at the Duck Invitational and The Goodwin on the way to earning Pac-12 Golfer of the Month honors. He matched an Oregon program record with an 8-under 62 in the final round of The Goodwin to finish the week 9 under and just a shot out of a playoff. Earlier that week, Gueant led the way for the Ducks with a third-place finish at 3 under in the Duck Invitational at Eugene Country Club.

Moriyama finished second on the team with a 71.86 scoring average and led the team with 105 birdies and 13 under par rounds. He really hit his stride over the last seven events of the season, posting a 70.95 scoring average and five top-20 finishes over that stretch. Moriyama also delivered a counting score in all 28 rounds this year.

In his most recent start, Moriyama turned in a career week by finishing in third at the Pac-12 Championships. The freshman shot under par in all four rounds and held the lead for a significant stretch of time in the event on the way to finishing 15 under and a shot out of a playoff. He also turned in a top-10 finish at the Bandon Dunes Championship in March by shooting 2 under for the event to place tied for 10th.

Stember and Avrit finished third and fourth, respectively, on the team in scoring average and received all-newcomer honorable mention recognition. Stember heads into the postseason with a 72.61 scoring average while Avrit posted a 73.14 stroke average in his first season as a Duck. Both posted a pair of top 20s and a top 10.
