UPDATE – Name Released – Fatal Crash on Hwy 99E – Marion County06/22/21

The operator is being identified as Roberto Martinez (22) of Salem.

On Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at approximately 1:23 A.M., Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a single vehicle crash on Hwy 99E near milepost 39.

Preliminary investigation revealed a Ford Focus was southbound when it left the roadway, crashed through a fence and struck an unoccupied truck.

The operator sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased.  The name will be released when appropriate.

OSP was assisted by Marion County Fire and Medics and ODOT.

Case Number Correction – Oregon State Police is Requesting Public’s Assistance with Homicide Investigation – Coos County06/22/21

On Friday, June 18, 2021 Oregon State Police assisted numerous agencies with the investigation of multiple homicides that occurred in Coos County.

The suspect, Oen Nicholson,  traveled to Hwy 126, near Noti, in Lane County where the vehicle Nicholson was driving was ditched.  It is believed that Nicholson obtained a ride from someone in the Noti area to Springfield where Laura Johnson was abducted and taken to Wisconsin.

Oregon State Police is requesting anyone with information or that might have given Nicholson a ride from Noti to Springfield to contact the Oregon State Police at 1-800-442-0776 or *OSP and leave information regarding OSP Case # SP21-168713.

UPDATE – Shooting Investigation – Marion County06/22/21

The victim of the gunshot is being identified as Jerry Regis (28) of Salem.

On Monday, June 21, 2021 at approximately 2:45P.M., Oregon State Police, Salem Police Department and emergency personnel responded to a person with a gunshot near the northbound Interstate 5 off-ramp.

The victim has been transported to the hospital.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male adult approximately 5’5 with a shaved or almost shaved head, mustache, wearing khaki pants and khaki shirt.  Last seen headed south armed with a firearm.  If you see anyone matching this description please call 911.

Investigation is continuing – Law Enforcement is still active please avoid the area.

Another Traffic Stop Leads to Drugs Off the Streets- Klamath County06/22/21

On June 19, 2021, at approximately 7:16 P.M. an OSP Trooper from the Klamath Falls Area Command stopped a vehicle for failure to drive within its lane on U.S. Highway 97 near milepost 264.  During the traffic stop, the Trooper noticed signs of criminal activity, and a consent search was conducted.  The search of the vehicle revealed approximately 55.1 pounds of methamphetamine, approximately 2.2 pounds of cocaine, and approximately 1,027 grams of suspected fentanyl pills concealed in the vehicle.

The driver was identified as Daniel Ponce Gonzalez (36) from Yakima, Washington, and the passenger was identified as Benjamin Madrigal Birrueta (20) from Madera, California.  Mr. Ponce Gonzalez and Mr. Madrigal Birrueta were lodged at the Klamath County Jail for Unlawful Possession and Delivery of Methamphetamine, Unlawful Possession and Delivery of Cocaine, Unlawful Possession and Delivery of a Schedule II Controlled Substance, and Possession of a Forged Instrument. 

The Oregon State Police was assisted by Agents from the Medford Offices of the Department of Homeland Security Investigations and the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Fatal Crash on Interstate 84 – Hood River County06/21/21

On Sunday, June 20, 2021 at approximately 11:47 P.M., Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a single vehicle crash on Interstate 84 near mile post 67.

Preliminary investigation revealed a Subaru Impreza, operated by Enrique Sosa (21) from Mosier,  was westbound when it crashed through a guardrail, went down an embankment and stopped in the Columbia River.

Sosa and the juvenile passenger sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced deceased.

OSP was assisted by the Hood River County Sheriff’s Office, Hood River Fire and Rescue, Skamania County Dive Team, and ODOT.

Fatal Crash on Hwy 140W – Klamath County06/21/21

On June 20, 2021 at approximately 7:35 P.M., Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a single vehicle crash on Hwy 140W near milepost 43.

Preliminary investigation revealed a Harley Davidson motorcycle, operated by David Erickson (70) of Klamath Falls, was eastbound when it went off the roadway and crashed.

Erickson was transported by air ambulance to the hospital where they were pronounced deceased.

OSP was assisted by the Klamath County Sheriff’s Office, Rocky Point Fire & Medical, and the USFS

Fatal Crash on Hwy 140W – Klamath County06/19/21

On Friday, June 18, 2021 at approximately 11:00 A.M., Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a single vehicle crash on Hwy 140W near milepost 60.

Preliminary investigation revealed a Subaru Legacy, operated by Donna Palmer (65) of Klamath Falls, was eastbound when it went off the roadway and rolled down an embankment.

Palmer was transported by air ambulance to Rogue Regional Medical Center where they were pronounced deceased.

Passenger, Gerald Berton (66) of Klamath Falls, was transported to Sky Lakes Medical Center. 

OSP was assisted by Klamath Fire District 1 and ODOT.

UPDATE – Fatal Crash on Interstate 5 – Marion County06/17/21

Further investigation reveals that Jeri Sherrod was likely hit by one or more vehicles that did not stop.  Cagle stopped at the scene and cooperated.

On Thursday, June 17, 2021 at approximately 1:06 A.M., Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a vehicle that struck a pedestrian on Interstate 5 near milepost 267.  

Preliminary investigating revealed a pedestrian, Jeri Sherrod (63) of Salem, was in the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 when they were struck by a Peterbilt semi-truck operated by Donald Cagle (57) of Lebanon. 

Dispatch centers had received numerous calls from motorists regarding a person in the northbound lanes before the collision. 

Sherrod sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased.

OSP was assisted by Marion County Fire Department and ODOT. 

I-5 northbound was shutdown for approximately five hours.  

Fatal Crash on Hwy 20E – Deschutes County06/17/21

On Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at approximately 9:30 P.M., Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a vehicle crash on Hwy 20E near mile post 57.

Preliminary investigation revealed a Dodge Durango, operated by Adolfo Ramirez (30) of Ontario, was westbound and crossed into the eastbound lane and collided with a Kenworth semi-truck operated by Kyle Knudtson (43) of Reardon, WA.

Ramirez sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased.

Knudtson received minor injuries and was not transported.

OSP was assisted by Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, Deschutes County Fire Department, and ODOT.

Fatal Crash on Hwy 39 – Klamath County06/16/21

On Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at approximately 8:10 A.M., Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a vehicle crash on Hwy 39 near milepost 15.

Preliminary investigation revealed a Chevy Spark, operated by a juvenile, was northbound when it crossed in the southbound lane and collided with a Kenworth semi-truck operated by Jim Hadd (53) of Klamath Falls.

The juvenile was transported to Sky Lakes Hospital where they were pronounced deceased.

OSP was assisted by the Merrill Fire Department and ODOT.

Shooting Investigation – Lake County06/16/21

On Monday, June 7, 2021 at approximately 10:35 P.M., Lake County 911 received a call advising Lawrence Mann (46) from Lakeview had been shot. 

Mann was treated on scene by initial responding Lake County Deputies and transported by ambulance to the hospital and later transported to St. Charles in Bend.   

Investigation revealed that Wade Alvis (48) from Alturas, CA. was the suspect.  

On Wednesday, June 9, 2021 Oregon State Police Troopers and Lake County Deputies located Alvis in Lakeview.  Alvis was arrested and lodged at the Lake County Jail.   

Alvis was charged with Assault in the First Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Felon in Possession of a Restricted Weapon.

Fatal Crash on Hwy 20 – Harney County06/10/21

On Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at approximately 3:55 P.M., Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a vehicle crash on Hwy 20 near mile post 152.

Preliminary investigation revealed a Subaru Forester, operated by Lillie Gray (66) of Dallas, was westbound when it moved into the eastbound lane to pass 2 motorcycles and collided with a eastbound Dodge Van operated by Rollie Brubaker (64) of Oceanside, CA. 

Gray sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased.

Brubaker and passenger, Maria Brubaker (56) of Oceanside, CA, were transported to Harney District Hospital.

One of the motorcyclists, Neil Postal (22) of Burns, was unable to avoid the crash and was transported to Harney District Hospital.

A fourth vehicle sustained minor damage when it drove off the road and struck a highway sign to avoid the crash. 

OSP was assisted by the Harney County Sheriff’s Office, Burns Fire Department, Harney District Ambulance, and ODOT.

Fatal Crash on Hwy 27 – Crook County06/10/21

On Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at approximately 8:10 P.M., Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a single vehicle crash on Hwy 27 near mile post 5.

Preliminary investigation revealed a Kia Spectra, operated by Clayton Gray (19) of Halfway, was northbound when it crossed the southbound lane, left the roadway, and rolled.

Gray sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased.

A juvenile passenger was transported by Airlink to St. Charles Hospital with serious injuries.

OSP was assisted by the Crook County Sheriff’s Office, Crook County Fire Department, and ODOT

Fatal Crash on Hwy 51 – Polk County06/10/21

On Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at approximately 11:45 A.M., Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a single vehicle crash on Hwy 51 near mile post 3.

Preliminary investigation revealed a Chevrolet Trax, operated by Richard Davis (74) of Independence, was southbound when it left the roadway and rolled. 

Davis sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased.

OSP was assisted by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Polk County Fire and Medics, and ODOT.

UPDATE – Fatal Crash on Hwy 126E – Lane County06/09/21

The operator is being identified as Staci Jackson (56) of Eugene.

On Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at approximately 11:48 P.M., Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a single vehicle crash on Hwy 126E near milepost 17.

Preliminary investigation revealed a Ford Escort was westbound when it left the roadway and struck a power pole.

The operator was transported to Riverbend Hospital where she was pronounced deceased.  The name of the operator will be released when appropriate.

OSP was assisted by Emergency Medical Services and ODOT 

Fatal Crash on Hwy 199 – Josephine County06/08/21

On Monday, June 7, 2021 at approximately 2:30 P.M., Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a two vehicle crash on Hwy 199 near mile post 25.

Preliminary investigation revealed a Dodge Caravan, operated by Ronald Johnson (73) of Cave Junction, was southbound when it hit the back of a Nissan Frontier, operated by Brandi Millen (39) of Kerby, which was stopped to turn left into a private driveway.  

Johnson sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased while being transported by ambulance. 

Millen was transported to the hospital with non life threatening injuries. 

OSP was assisted by the Illinois Valley Fire District and ODOT. 

Fatal Crash on Hwy 138E – Douglas County06/04/21

On Thursday, June 3, 2021 at approximately 5:30 P.M., Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a single vehicle crash on Hwy 138E near milepost 28.

Preliminary investigation revealed a Ford Taurus, operated by Adam Sherman (47) of Roseburg, was westbound when it left the roadway and struck a tree.

Sherman sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased.

A juvenile passenger was transported by air ambulance to the hospital.

OSP was assisted by Glide Fire Department, Umpqua Valley Ambulance, and ODOT

Fatal Crash on I-84 – Umatilla County06/03/21

On Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at approximately 3:30 P.M., Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a vehicle crash on Interstate 84 near milepost 206.

Preliminary investigation indicates a Dodge Ram pickup pulling a travel trailer, operated by Kurt Hitchen (48) of Pendleton, was eastbound when the trailer began to sway causing both vehicles to roll.  

Hitchen sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased.

Passenger Melissa Hagen (38) of Pendleton was transported to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Pendleton.

OSP was assisted at the scene by the, Pendleton Fire Department, Echo Fire Department, and ODOT.

UPDATE – Fatal Crash on Hwy 58 – Lane County05/31/21

Oregon State Police is requesting the public’s assistance with witnesses to yesterday’s triple fatality crash.

A fourth vehicle, possibly a blue pickup was involved in the crash but left the scene without providing information.

Mazda M3 was operated by Jagadish Chandrasekaren (31) of Washington sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased.

Passengers:

Adharsh Murali (25) of Washington sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased.

Jignesh Modi (27) of Washington sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased.

Puneeth Gattikoppula (24) of Washington transported by air ambulance to the hospital with serious injuries.

OSP is/was being assisted by the Lane County Sheriff’s Office, Oakridge Fire Department, Goshen Fire Department, Dexter Fire Department, Lane County District Attorney’s Office, and ODOT.

On Sunday, May 30, 2021 at approximately 10:15 A.M., Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a vehicle collision on Hwy 58 near milepost 27.

Preliminary investigation revealed a Ford Taurus, operated by James Johnson (31) of Oakridge, was westbound passing in a no passing zone when it collided with a also westbound Chrysler Town and Country, operated by Michael Cary (63) of Oakridge, the Taurus then collided with a eastbound Mazda 3. 

Three occupants in the Mazda 3 sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced deceased.  A fourth occupant was transported by air ambulance to the hospital with serious injuries.

Cary was not transported but later went to the hospital for treatment.

Johnson was transported to the hospital.

Investigation is continuing and names will be released when appropriate.

Fatal Crash on Hoover Creek Lane – Wheeler County05/30/21

On Saturday, May 29, 2021 at approximately 4:20 P.M., Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a vehicle crash on Hoover Creek Lane outside of Fossil.

Preliminary investigation revealed a Honda 450R motorcycle, operated by Timothy Binder (32) of Condon, was northbound and collided with a southbound Subaru Outback operated by Thomas Edwards (71) of Bend.

Bender sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased.

Edwards and passenger, Gale Brown (61) of Bend, received minor injuries.

OSP was assisted by Wheeler County Sheriff’s Office and EMS. 

Fatal Crash on Hwy 97- Klamath County05/30/21

On Saturday, May 29, 2021 at approximately 8:22 P.M., Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a single vehicle crash on Hwy 97 near mile post 173.

Preliminary investigation revealed an Audi All-Track, operated by Richard Enquist (41) of Bend, was southbound when it went off the roadway and rolled.

Enquist sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased.

OSP was assisted by the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, Lapine Fire Department, ODOT, and Central Oregon Police Chaplaincy.

Fatal Crash on Hwy 206 – Sherman County05/29/21

On Friday, May 28, 2021 at approximately 3:20 P.M., Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a single vehicle crash on Hwy 206 near milepost 12.

Preliminary investigation revealed a Harley Davidson motorcycle, operated by Ricky Stocker (62) of Hillsboro, was eastbound when it went off the road and down an embankment.

Stocker sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased.

OSP was assisted by the Sherman County Sheriff’s Office, Sherman County EMS, and ODOT.

Fatal Crash on Hwy 20 – Lincoln County05/24/21

On Monday, May 24, 2021 at approximately 9:44 A.M., Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a multiple vehicle collision on Hwy 20 near milepost 3.

Preliminary investigation revealed a Ford F250 truck towing a 16 foot fully enclosed trailer, operated by Devin Shrum (32) of Lebanon, was eastbound when it lost control crossed into the westbound lane and collided with a Ford Fiesta operated by Kayla Rhoades (29) of Toledo. 

The trailer came loose and struck a westbound Dodge Magnum operated by Jeremy Lacewell (43) of Toledo. 

Rhoades sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased. 

Shrum and his passenger, Lonnie Shrum (64) of Lebanon, were transported to Samaritan Pacific Hospital.

Lacewell and his passenger, Jimmy Short (36) of Toledo, were not injured.

OSP was assisted by Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Toledo Police Department, Newport Fire Department, Toledo Fire Department and ODOT.
