Radley Signs 2021 Big West Player Of The Year

EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon women’s golf head coach Derek Radley made a big offseason splash on Friday with the signing of 2021 Big West player of the year Brittany Shin.

Shin will join the Ducks after leading Cal State Fullerton in scoring average each of the last two seasons. The Cape Coral, Fla., native was named the conference’s golfer of the year as a sophomore after winning a pair of tournaments, tying for fourth at the Big West Championship, and qualifying as an individual for the NCAA Stanford Regional.

“We are incredibly excited to welcome Brittany to our program,” said Radley. “She has proven she can compete and win at the collegiate level and we love what she’ll bring to our team both on and off the course. Brittany is very talented and we can’t wait to get to work with her here in Eugene.”

Shin owned a 73.80 scoring average as a sophomore, posting seven rounds of par or better with a trio of sub-70 rounds. She opened the 2021 season with a 76-69-74 (+3) to win the Valley Invitational, and she matched her career-low round with a 5-under 67 in the first round of the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic before going on to win at 5-under par (67-71-73).

At the 2021 Big West Championship, Shin opened with an even-par 72 and closed with a 3-under 69 to tie for fourth place overall and wrap up player of the year honors. Shin was named the Big West women’s golfer of the month twice as a sophomore before ending her season with a 72-77-75 (+11, T57) showing at the NCAA Stanford Regional.

During the pandemic-shortened 2019-20 season, Shin led the Titans as a freshman with a 73.67 scoring average while posting three top-five finishes. Shin earned her first collegiate win at the UNF Collegiate with a 1-over 217, and she helped lead Cal State Fullerton to a program-best three tournament victories in just five events.

Shin will join an Oregon team that returns its entire starting five from the lineup that finished 11th overall at the 2021 NCAA Championships. She will be one of four third-year players for the Ducks, along with 2021 second-team all-American Briana Chacon, 2020 honorable mention all-American Sofie Kibsgaard Nielsen, and Oregon’s top 2021 NCAA finisher in Ching-Tzu Chen. All-Pac-12 selection Hsin-Yu (Cynthia) Lu is also back after a stellar freshman season, and Tze-Han (Heather) Lin will be looked to for leadership as the team’s lone senior. Radley has also signed Oregon native Baylee Hammericksen for the upcoming season.
