PENDLETON — The National Policy Consensus Center contracted Jane Hill, a Pendleton resident, to serve as a liaison between various agencies and organizations working to lower water nitrate levels in Morrow and Umatilla counties.

As has been the trend for more than three decades now, the Lower Umatilla Basin Groundwater Management Area continues to have high concentrations of nitrate, making some private wells unsafe to drink and requiring people to rely on bottled water or filtration systems.
