Unless the Big Ten has an abrupt change of plan, there won’t be enough Power 5 conference opponents available for the Pac-12 to play if it elects to drop from nine to eight conference games before the College Football Playoff’s current contract ends after the 2025 season.

Pac-12 commissioner George Kliavkoff told The Oregonian/OregonLive earlier this week that the league is mulling multiple both eight- and nine-game conference scheduling models starting with the 2023 season and that an expanded CFP and its yet to be determined selection criteria could lead to a different conference scheduling model beginning in 2026.
