UPDATE 4:10 P.M., SEPTEMBER 9, 2022

 The suspect in this case, Anthony Charles Rodeen, age 18, of Eugene, will be facing charges of Murder in the Second Degree, Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, Assault in the Second Degree, and two counts of Felony Hit & Run.  

The 23-year-old victim taken to the hospital is recovering from her injuries. 

We are still waiting on releasing the deceased victim’s name to allow time for family notification.

UPDATE: 6:10 P.M. SEPTEMBER 8, 2022

At 3:36 p.m. Eugene Central Lane Communications Center (911) received a report of a reckless Toyota 4-Runner driver who had run over a tent with people inside, and then further down the road, went onto a sidewalk and hit a pedestrian near Dari Mart. Multiple Eugene Police units responded. The driver was detained with some involvement by bystanders at a 1082 Hwy. 99 parking lot. Eugene Police took custody without issue and transported him to Eugene Police headquarters, and then to a local hospital for treatment of undetermined conditions. 

Two people had been in the tent and one, a female is deceased. The pedestrian hit near Dari Mart has life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

EPD Patrol, Major Collision Investigation team, Violent Crimes Unit, Community Service Officers, Drone Team, Eugene Springfield Fire, Eugene Public Works, Lane County Sheriff’s Office, and Oregon State Police, to the scene.

The multiple crash scenes cover more than a mile and the roadway will be restricted for an undetermined amount of time to allow for a thorough investigation.

The Eugene Police Department is advising motorists to avoid the area of Highway 99 from Elmira to Barger. Emergency personnel are responding to a crash incident with multiple people injured.
