SALEM — U.S. Rep. Cliff Bentz, a Republican, is comfortably ahead in the race for the 2nd Congressional District over his Democratic challenger following the first batch of results released by the Oregon Secretary of State.

At 8 p.m. with 29% of the ballots counted, Bentz had 65% of the 199,269 votes counted, leading challenger Joe Yetter, who had just 34%.
