IRRIGON — Nearly 7.4 million seniors have incomes below the poverty line. That’s an income of $240 a week or less, which, after housing, utility and medical expenses, leaves very little for food. The statistic is from the nongovernmental organization Meals on Wheels America that has provided meals for senior citizens for 50 years.

In Irrigon, the Stokes Landing Senior Center, 195 N.W. Opal Place, has been offering meals to seniors for 25 years. Meals are $4 each for those 60 or over, and $5 each for those under 60.
