At 9:28 a.m. on August 31, Eugene Police patrol units responded to reports of a man attempting to stab a patrol vehicle’s tires. Then, upon arrival, they encountered employees of a nearby business who reported the man had thrown the knife at an employee working on a customer’s vehicle parked in the alley by the business. The knife is reported to have narrowly missed the employee and instead lodged in the side of the vehicle, near the employee’s head.

The suspect, Quinn Carsten Reed, age 26, of Portland, Oregon, was reported to have left the location and shortly thereafter attempted to push an unknown man from a motorized scooter, to have struck an unknown woman near west 11th Avenue and Lincoln Street and to have tried to take another man’s phone by force, poking the man in the side with what was later discovered to be a knife. The man was not injured.

Officers located and took Reed into custody without incident at 12th Avenue and Lincoln Street around 9:35 a.m.

Reed was taken to Lane County Jail on the following charges: two counts of Attempted Assault in the Second Degree, Attempted Robbery in the First Degree, two counts of Unlawful Use of a Weapon, two counts of Menacing, Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree, and Disorderly Conduct.
