At around 5:16 a.m. today, January 9,  a Eugene Police officer observed a reckless driver in a Dodge Dakota pickup on W. 6th Avenue after the driver almost struck the front of the officer’s vehicle. When the officer attempted a traffic stop on the pickup, it fled north on Hwy. 99. Subsequently, the suspect driver passed another EPD officer near Hwy. 99 and Prairie Road, and that officer also reported similar reckless behavior. The driver’s behavior posed a significant, ongoing risk to the public and a pursuit was initiated.

The suspect was driving all over the roadway. He drove north on River Road from Beltline and eventually lost control of the vehicle and it went into a slide, crashing at W. Dean Avenue and River Road, near River Loop 2.  The truck struck two small trees and crashed into a brick and iron fence, coming to a rest in the dirt where officers pinned it and took the suspect, Michael Scott Bodine, age 36, of Springfield, into custody.

Bodine was transported to the Lane County Jail on charges of Reckless Driving, Elude by vehicle, Reckless Endangering, and Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree. Case 23-00413
