On June 15, 2023, the Eugene Police Street Crimes Unit was contacted by the Problem-Solving Unit of Henderson Police Department in Nevada regarding a Fugitive from Justice, who had fled to the State to Oregon. The suspect, Jordan Michael Church, age 19, had a nationwide felony warrant out of HPD for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Assault by Strangulation.

SCU began preliminary workups and identified Church was residing at 90 Commons Drive, Eugene. He was observed and positively identified on June 19.

At approximately 5:32 p.m. on June 20, EPD SCU, SWAT, and Special Investigations Unit were monitoring the parking lot and when Church exited an apartment, SWAT took him safely into custody. Due to UO graduations and the resulting influx of pedestrian traffic in the area, the operation was conducted quickly, quietly, and with a minimal footprint as to not disrupt the celebratory activities.

Church will be extradited back to Henderson, Nevada. HPD expressed their gratitude for the expedient and efficient work conducted to take Church into custody. He had been a fugitive since late 2022. Case 23-08982

SCU is funded by the City of Eugene’s Community Safety Payroll Tax and works in concert with communities to help solve issues. The unit focuses on prolific offenders, who are identified through intelligence-based policing, public tips, and other sources. They proactively respond across the city to quality-of-life issues as they arise, using all available resources and partners such as community groups, neighborhood associations and city services. SCU is dedicated to targeting immediate and acute community safety system issues while working toward mission-critical enhancements that need to be addressed through a longer-term and broader community safety initiative.
