NARRATIVE OF INCIDENT:

On 07/19/22 at 1321 hours, Officers responded to a burglary at a residence on Summit Blvd. The victim reported the suspect had just left the residence and the house was ransacked. Several Officers responded to the area and conducted a search for the suspect, but no one was located initially. Eventually a neighboring resident flagged down an Officer and advised they heard about the burglary and their security camera captured images of the suspect. The video and photos were shared with responding Officers along with a detailed vehicle and suspect description.

While responding to a separate call on 40th St., Animal Control Officer Brian Austin (also a Reserve Police Officer) observed the suspect vehicle at the same residence as the ongoing call. Officer Austin then observed the suspect wearing the same clothing from the security footage. Officers were dispatched to the area and the burglary suspect departed in the involved vehicle. Arriving Officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop at 42nd St and Commercial Ave. The suspect was positively identified and taken into custody without incident and some of the property was recovered from the involved vehicle. The remaining stolen property was recovered from the suspect’s residence and returned to the homeowner.

All responding Officers worked quickly and effectively at capturing a residential burglary suspect that led to an arrest and the recovery of the stolen property. SPD is thankful for the help of the area residents who aided responding officers by checking their security cameras during this incident.
