PENDLETON — One of Eastern Oregon’s biggest advocates for rural cancer care is taking her message to Washington, D.C., on behalf of the whole state.

Karen Malcolm, 58, of Pendleton, is a member of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation and a 10-month breast cancer survivor. She is the ambassador constituent — or lead volunteer, as she put it — for the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network in the 2nd Congressional District, and she is meeting next week with Oregon’s full Congressional delegation while in D.C.
