Passenger dies in vehicle crash on Hwy 6 – Washington County (Photo)

On Wednesday, July 24, 2019, at approximately 8:00 P.M. Oregon State Police and emergency personnel responded to a vehicle crash on Highway 6 near milepost 48. 

Preliminary investigation revealed that a Ford Fiesta, operated by Talita Weltzien (19) of Hillsboro,  was eastbound on Hwy 6 when it ran into the trailer attached to a Volvo Commercial Motor Vehicle, operated by Robert Grinstead (56) of Gresham, that was stopped in an active construction zone.  After the initial collision the Fiesta entered the westbound lanes and was hit by a Ford Explorer, operated by Brian Reynolds (48) of Tillamook.

A passenger in the Fiesta, Elizabeth Shell (19) of Hillsboro, sustained fatal injuries was was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Weltzien was transported to Emanuel Hospital with minor injuries.  After release from the hospital she was transported and lodged into the Washington County Jail on the following charges:

Manslaughter 2/ DUII / Reckless Driving / Reckless Endangering / Reckless Endangering of a Highway worker / Criminal Mischief 2.

All others involved received minor/no injuries.

Oregon State Police was assisted by the Washington County Sheriff's Office, Banks Fire Department, Metro West Ambulance, and ODOT.

 

 

 

 

Fatal Crash on Interstate-5 – Jackson County

On Wednesday, July 24, 2019, at approximately 1:45 A.M. Oregon State Police Troopers responded to a two vehicle crash on Interstate 5 (northbound lanes) near mile post 26. 

Preliminary investigation indicates that a Honda Civic, operated by Tyler Nelson (25) of Medford, was stopped or traveling slow in the right hand lane for unknown reasons.  A Freightliner (commercial motor vehicle) with loaded trailer, operated by Baljinder Singh (45) of Roseville, CA. struck the Honda Civic in the rear of the vehicle pushing it off of the right side of the roadway. 

Nelson sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Singh was not injured.

The right lane of Interstate 5 northbound was closed for several hours following the crash. 

OSP was assisted by Jackson County Sheriff's Office and ODOT.

Motorcyclist dies in crash on Hwy 207 – Wheeler County

On Monday, July 22, 2019, at approximately 7:30 P.M. Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to the report of a motorcycle crash on Hwy 207, near mile post 18, north of Mitchell, Oregon.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a black 2017 Harley Davidson motorcycle, operated by Christopher Jones (48) of Madras, was northbound on Hwy 207 when for unknown reasons the motorcycle left the roadway, on a corner, and crashed.

Jones sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

OSP was assisted by the Wheeler County Sheriff's Office, Spray Ambulance, and ODOT.  

Update- Single Vehicle Fatal Crash on Lakeshore Dr. near Selma, OR – Josephine County

The deceased has been identified as Anna Grafwallner, 26-year-old, from Cave Junction, Oregon.

On Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at approximately 2:04 A.M. Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to the report of a single vehicle crash on Lake Shore Drive near Selma.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a Subaru Forester was traveling on Lake Shore Drive when it went off the roadway and into the trees.

The driver was transported to Rogue Regional Medical Center by REACH Air Medical Service.

The driver was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

OSP was assisted by Illinois Valley Fire, AMR, and REACH Air Medical Service.

 

Two vehicle fatal crash on Hwy 224 – Clackamas County (Photo)

On Sunday, July 21, 2019 at approximately 4:48 P.M.. Oregon State Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a two vehicle crash on Hwy 224 near milepost 15.

Preliminary investigation revealed a Buick Lesabre, operated by Violet Sullivan (88) of Estacada, was traveling westbound on Hwy 224 and turned left in front of a Harley Davidson Motorcycle operated by Russell Nelson (65) of Portland.

Nelson was flown by Life Flight to OHSU where he was pronounced deceased.

OSP was assisted by Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, Clackamas County Fire, and ODOT.

 

 

Motorcyclist dies in crash on Hwy 97 – Sherman County

On Sunday, July 21, 2019, at approximately 11:33 AM, Oregon State Troopers and emergency personnel responded to the report of a single vehicle crash, involving a motorcycle, on Hwy 97 near mile post 15, approximately two miles north of Moro, Oregon. 

Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2005 Kawasaki motorcycle, operated by Vanesa Gunther (55) of Junction City, Oregon, was traveling southbound on Hwy 97 when a wild turkey collided with her after flying into a northbound commercial motor vehicle. After being struck by the turkey, Gunther traveled across the northbound lane and collided with a guardrail.

Gunther sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The northbound lane of Hwy 97 was closed for several hours following the crash.

OSP was assisted by the Sherman County Sheriff's Office, North Sherman Fire, Moro Fire and Rescue, and ODOT.

The deceased has been identified as 19 year old female Bend area resident Lauren Cantrell.

On Thursday July 18, 2019 at about 7:30 p.m., Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a two vehicle head on fatal crash on Highway 97 near milepost 197 in Klamath County. 

The investigation revealed that a white 2005 Jeep Liberty was traveling southbound on Highway 97 and for unknown reasons, drifted onto the southbound shoulder.  The operator of the Jeep reportedly overcorrected, and spun into the oncoming lane colliding with a 2014 grey Dodge Ram truck that was towing a travel trailer.  The 2014 Dodge Ram was operated by 57 year old Janesville, California resident, Clarence Noblet and his passenger and spouse, identified as 55 year old Laraine Noblet.

The driver of the Jeep Liberty was pronounced deceased at the scene as a result of the crash.  Identity of the deceased will be withheld until a notification to the family can be conducted.  Clarence and Laraine Noblet were transported to a Bend area hospital where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Distracted driving and speed are believed to be factors in this crash. 

Highway 97 was closed for approximately 4 hours as a result and OSP was assisted at the scene by ODOT, Chemult Rural Fire District and Crescent Fire District.

    

Oregon State Police investigating sex abuse – Marion / Polk Counties (Photo)

On Monday, July 15, 2019, Oregon State Police Detectives from the Salem Area Command arrested James Allen Moore (80) on one count of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree.

The arrest stemmed from an incident that occurred in early June, when Moore sexually abused a 9 year old female, who was known to him. 

Moore was actively involved with his church, where he worked with children for decades in the Willamette Valley. With his involvement with children, OSP is concerned there could be more victims. Oregon State Police investigating theft of trailer.- Douglas County (Photo)

Oregon State Police is investigating the theft of an enclosed utility trailer which contained about $30,000 worth of striping equipment and materials. 

On July 2, 2019 the victim was driving south on I-5 in south Douglas County when he experienced a flat tire.  He left the trailer and returned on July 3 and the trailer was missing.  It appears the trailer was driven with a flat tire and the tire marks lead to the Glendale area.

Three paint stripers, similar to one in picture, were in the trailer.

Motorcyclist dies in crash on Hwy 101 – Coos County

On Monday, July 15, 2019 at approximately 10:30 P.M. Oregon State Police and emergency personnel responded to a single vehicle crash on Hwy 101 near milepost 279.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2003 Yamaha Motorcycle, operated by Robert Killough (52) of Bandon, OR. was traveling south on Hwy 101 when it left the roadway and crashed.

Killough sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased.

Oregon State Police was assisted by the Coos County Sheriff's Department, Bandon Police Department, Bandon Fire Department, Bay Cities Ambulance, and ODOT.
