November 5th is the day for Springfield to show it’s support for the local food pantries and kitchens that provide relief for the low income and under served. Catholic Community Services, Salvation Army and Ebbert United Methodist will be the beneficiaries of the food drive. Collection will start at 12 noon Saturday November 5th in front of the Growler Underground, 521 Main Street, Springfield. Any person who donates non perishable food will receive a coupon for entry into the Growler Underground Saturday night for music and specials on beverages.
Lucas Biespiel and His Dangerous Gentlemen will be providing the entertainment. They are a favorite at the Growler Underground and when you hear their music you will understand why.
Catholic Community Center provides a food Pantry for those who need it. They also offer energy assistance programs, family support, fathers parenting program, food, clothing, emergency help, housing help along with other programs to assist the community. The food pantry is a big part of the services they provide and needs constant donations to meet the need that is as constant.
Salvation Army not only offers a food pantry, but also assistance with housing, veterans affairs services, homelessness. In the summer they provide a youth camp with fee assistance for those that need it so their children can enjoy. Christmas time Salvation Army not only collects funds to support all their programs they provide meals for over 400 families in the area. Hunger relief is a big part of their ministries.
Ebbert United Methodist Church offers meals for those who need them. Mondays they offer breakfast. Tuesday and Thursday sack lunches are the fare of the day. Wednesday is a Community Meal all served at their location. They offer food for the stomach and for the soul.
All three of these facilities work all year to help with hunger. Volunteers are the heart and soul of all programs that they offer. Each one runs on donations and they work tirelessly to continue to provide all of their services each offers.
The people in the Springfield community have always been a generous bunch of folks and this is a chance to show that generosity and load up our trailer with food we can share with all three of these fantastic programs for the people of Springfield.
We hope to see you at the Growler Underground November 5th. We will also collect a suggested donation at the door which will be passed on to our recipients for the purchase of more food. If you have already given during the day and have a coupon or bring cans to the show, you are in free and get discounts on beverages offered at the Growler Underground.
