Two Florence Men Arrested in Eagle Point Robbery

///

An Oregon State Police trooper received an anonymous tip that one of two suspects involved in a September 19, 2014, robbery of an AM/PM Mini-Mart in Eagle Point was in the Florence area. Earlier this week the trooper was able to determine the name and location of one of the suspects, identified as GAGE S. MILLER, 21 of Florence , who was already in custody on other unrelated charges in the Florence Police Department Jail.

During the interview of the suspect additional information was developed which led investigators to determine the identity and location of the second suspect.

The second suspect, identified as TIMOTHY D. RAYBOULD, 22, of Florence, was located and stopped leaving a Florence area residence on February 6. Both RAYBOULD and MILLER were arrested and transported to the Jackson County Jail pending charges for Robbery in the first degree and Robbery in the second degree. Preliminary information indicates the ‘hoods’ worn by the robbers were actually camouflage boxer-brief style underwear.

81-Year Old Man Arrested After Shooting Boat

Florence OR – Oregon State Police (OSP) is seeking additional witnesses following the arrest of an 81-year old man who fired a shotgun at the men’s boat in the 6000 block of Highway 126 east of Florence along the Siuslaw River.

On September 8, 2014 at approximately 1:32 p.m., two OSP troopers, a Lane County Sheriff’s Office deputy, and an officer from Confederate Tribes of Coos Lower Umpqua Siuslaw Indians Police Department responded to a reported menacing at 67500 Highway 126 near milepost 3. Initial investigation indicated that two men had boat trouble as they were in the Siuslaw River and rowed to a dock where they secured their aluminum drift boat. One of the men remained with the boat as the other walked to get their vehicle and trailer to remove the boat from the water.

After returning with the vehicle and trailer, the men loaded the boat and were getting ready to leave when the property owner, ELDEN NORDAHL, age 81, arrived on his boat and approached the men. After telling them not to leave, NORDAHL went into his home and came out with a shotgun, firing one shot that penetrated the boat’s hull. As he was reloading, the men got in their vehicle and began driving away when a second round was fired hitting the boat’s engine.

Subsequent to the investigation, OSP arrested NORDAHL for Menacing, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Pointing a Firearm at a Person. A shotgun, rifle and ammunition were seized for evidence.

OSP troopers reported seeing several people in the river near the incident site that may have been witnesses. Any witnesses are asked to call OSP Northern Command Center dispatch at 800-452-7888 to leave a message for contact from lead investigator, Recruit Trooper Candyce Fiddy.

Police Investigate Fatal Hwy 126 Crash

7-26 HWY 126 CRASHMAPLETON, Ore. — A Florence man was killed in a crash east of Mapleton early Saturday morning.

Oregon State Police say an SUV was westbound on Highway 126 near milepost 22 when it traveled across the eastbound lane and into a tree. It happened just after 3 a.m.

The driver, 68-year-old Raymond Mosley, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was blocked off for about four hours as police investigated.

Sheriff Turner Loses Out on Chief Job

TOM TURNERLANE COUNTY, Ore. — Lane County Sheriff Tom Turner did not get the Florence Police Chief job. Sheriff Turner says he doesn’t know whether a candidate has been selected or who is still in the running for the job.

Sheriff Turner says he will also not seek reelection. He was appointed in January 2011 and elected in 2013 for a 4-year term.

We’ll have more information on the decision as it becomes available.

Man Dies After Being Crushed by Log

Newport oceanFLORENCE, Ore. — Oregon State Police is investigating the death of a 59-year-old Eugene man who was crushed by a log Sunday.

Troopers say around 6 p.m., on the beach near the Driftwood Shores Resort, the man was standing on a log when the tide came in. The tide rolled the log causing him to fall and then crushed him.

An off-duty Eugene-Springfield firefighter was on scene quickly and provided care. When a Western Lane Ambulance and Siuslaw Fire arrived, the man still had a pulse and was somewhat breathing.

The man was transported to Peace Harbor Hospital where he died due to his injuries.

Behind The Scenes: RDTV Brings Back Historic KEZI Stories

////

What I love most about television is link it gives me to other people and this show, the one that airs on Sunday March 30th, is all about community.

Florence and I have a friendship that goes back many years. When I worked at KEZI we did many “Our Town” Specials from the Oregon Coast City and people there have always treated me as a local. My wife and I are over there quite a bit, so much so rumor has it we have a place there, but we don’t.

We are always finding new ways to build community on the show. That’s not a slogan it really is a goal and this show will give you that feeling.

NICE FACE PLANT

We have a new feature we call a “Face Plant”. I know it sounds bloody but it’s not. It’s a one-minute interview with a businessperson or a chamber member to talk about the latest happenings. I love it because it’s not a commercial it’s a conversation. Check out the faces in this show!

A BAR WITH STRIPES

On this show we’ll introduce you to the Bridgewater Fish House and the Zebra Bar in Florence. We’ll also show you a new park in town and get you ready for a summer of fun in the city on the waterfront.

HISTORY IS ALIVE ON RDTV

We’re also introducing a partnership we just put together with the University of Oregon Libraries Special Collections and Archives Department. The Chambers Family, who own KEZI TV, my former employer, recently gifted all the film and video archives to this department for safekeeping. Our partnership with the U of O and will allow us to air stories from the past and put some historical perspective on issues around Western Oregon. We are really excited about this and on this upcoming show will start off with a fun story I did while working at KEZI back in the 90’s.  (Yes I had brown hair then)

We hope you enjoy this show and get a taste of things to come.

Got something to say? We want to find out more. Contact us at Rick Dancer We’d like nothing better than to plant your face on our show.

Made it this far?  Here’s the show!

Siuslaw Elem. on Lockdown This Morning

2-25 SIUSLAW 1FLORENCE, Ore. — Siuslaw Elementary School was back to normal after being placed on lockdown Tuesday morning.

Florence Police say an officer attempted to pull over a female driver, and her male passenger, near the school for driving while suspended. That’s when the passenger bolted.

As precaution, the elementary school was placed on lockdown for about a half an hour.

Police say they found the suspect Nick Trautman, 34, hiding in some bushes near homes. He was wanted on a felony warrant.

Trautman was transported to the Lane County Jail. The female driver was cited and released.
