Photo Essay: Ducks vs Stanford Softball

Oregon didn’t have to summon a comeback this time at Howe Field to finish off Stanford. The No. 10 Ducks swept their opening series of the Pac-12 season from the Cardinal with a 10-3 win Monday, UO’s first sweep of No. 15 Stanford since 1995.

Photo Essay: Oregon Pro Day

Last Thursday, Oregon hosted its Pro Day for the latest batch of NFL prospects to come out of Eugene. Although it’s the Ducks‘ speedy, electrifying offense that gets national recognition (not even going to mention their uniforms – oops, just did), it’s the players on the defensive side of the ball that have all the scouts’ attention.

The Ducks defense allowed just 21.6 PPG last year, twenty-fifth amongst FBS team. Dion Jordan (DE) and Kiko Alonso (LB), arguably the two most consistent playmakers in Oregon’s front seven, combined for 118 tackles, 6 sacks and 4 interceptions in 2012. Both players are currently dealing with injuries that have limited their pre-draft process.

The Oregon Ducks acrobatics and tumbling team continued their perfect record on the season with a 284.130-265.710 victory over the Fairmount State Falcons on Saturday afternoon.

The contest, held at Matthew Knight Arena, was dominated by the Ducks in both the first half and the second half, as Oregon used a nearly five-point margin in Acro to ensure they would not be upset by the visitors. Capping the meet with the Team Routine, the Ducks recorded a score of 284.130 to finish 14.27 points behind their start value score of 299.400. Fairmount State missed their start value score (294.220) by 28.51 points.

The Ducks will take the next week off before returning to action on March 25 against Quinnipiac at 6 pm. The meet will be held in Hamden, Connecticut.

Photo Essay: Ducks Softball & Baseball

After playing their first 25 games away from their home confines of Howe Field, the University of Oregon softball team finally returned to open up the park with two games against the New Mexico Lobos in double-header fashion. Ranked No. 9 in the nation, Oregon used key innings and stellar pitching to secure the sweep on the afternoon, winning the first game 10-0 and the second 4-0.

The No. 16 Oregon Ducks Baseball team climbs to 13-5 on the season after beating up on the Texas State Wildcats (5-12) 10-4 Wednesday afternoon. The two-game series sweep against Texas State is just what the doctor ordered after Oregon struggled last weekend – losing two of three against No. 2 Vanderbilt.

Photo Essay: OSAA 5A Girls Basketball Championship

It was déjà vu at Matthew Knight Arena for the 2013 OSAA Class 5A Girls Basketball State Championship on Saturday night, as the Willamette Wolverines and Springfield Millers—both teams from the local area—squared off in a rematch of last year’s state championships. With Springfield winning the 2012 state championship by a bizarre score of 16-7 due to a stall tactic implemented by the Wolverines, Willamette was looking to prevent the Millers from winning their third straight state championship.

Photo Essay: Springfield Vs Lebanon

PHOTO ESSAY by Gary Breedlove for EDN.
The Springfield Millers got off to a hot start in the final stages of the 2013 OSAA Class 5A girls basketball championships, downing Lebanon by a score of 71-33. Using a combination of offensive and defensive prowess, the Millers outplayed the Warriors in every quarter of the game as they advanced to the semifinals in this year’s championships. Though Lebanon would be the first team to put points on the board after Jenna Morch converted the first two free throws of the game, Springfield rattled off an 20-0 run for the rest of the first period, already giving them a huge separation from the Warriors.
