Oregon baseball gave it their all in extras, but ultimately fell to Iowa 2-1 in 11 innings to be eliminated from the NCAA tournament. The Ducks got on the board first in the bottom of the third when Mark Karaviotis singled and stole second. He advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on a single from Austin Grebeck. The Hawkeyes tied it up in the sixth off of Oregon starter Josh Graham. Eric Toole led off with a single, moved to second on a groundout, advanced to third in a wild pitch and ended up scoring on another wild pitch.

The Ducks had a chance to end it in the ninth when they loaded the bases with no outs. But Iowa pitcher Nick Hibbing got the strikeout and double play that he needed to send the game to extras. The Hawkeyes took the lead in the top of the 11th when Nick Roscetti reached on a fielder’s choice and eventually scored on a single from Daniel Aaron Moriel. Oregon couldn’t mount a rally in the bottom of the inning, going down 1-2-3. The Ducks finish the year with a 38-25 record.

Despite the loss players still stick around for the kids “You gunna be a @OregonBaseball someday?”

Oregon State

VCU handed the Beavers their first loss of the NCAA regionals Sunday afternoon in a 5-1 contest. The Rams broke through against Oregon State’s Drew Rasmussen in the bottom of the fourth. Matt Davis was hit by a pitch before back-to-back singles from Vimael Machin and Darian Carpenter made it 1-0. A sacrifice fly from Brett Hileman and an RBI double from Jimmy Kerrigan gave VCU a 3-0 lead.

They added two more runs in the fifth when Logan Farrar singled, and Davis and Machin both doubled. The Beavers were able to get on the board in the seventh when Dane Lund led off with a walk, Jeff Hendrix singled, and KJ Harrison hit a sacrifice fly. But that’d be it for Oregon State, as Heath Dwyer lasted 6.1 innings, allowing just three hits and one earned run. The Beavers take on Dallas Baptist at 6 p.m. PT to try to stay alive.
