Spring Fling Pop-up Studio Show in the Garden!
The show is being held outside and under cover in Roka’s patio and garden. Masks and hand sanitizer will be available. Just in time for Mother’s Day!
Roka Walsh will exhibit her newest mixed media print works (including some new mediums) along with some past favorites.
Sheri Smith-Holgate will have her gorgeous pine needles baskets, weavings, and gourds on display.
All artwork will be available for purchase.
Rain or shine ~ it is Oregon, after all! Can’t wait to see you!

Oregon Asian Celebration 2021

The 36th annual Oregon Asian Celebration in the Year of the Ox celebrating strength in unity. It will be a modified event on the footprint of Saturday Market design, held on Friday nights throughout May. The celebration will feature physically-distanced vendor booths, craft demonstrations and food carts/trucks. Traditional entertainment performances and live music from fan dancing to taiko drumming will be held on the Saturday Market stage. Explore heritage exhibits, demonstrations, fine arts and crafts and other cultural touchstones from every corner of the world’s largest continent. Dozens of cultures will be represented at the festival including Chinese, Indian, Japanese, Middle Eastern, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, Filipino, Central Asian cultures and many more! 

The event is produced by the Eugene/Springfield Asian Council, whose mission is to create opportunities that foster greater understanding of Asian and Asian American cultures by presenting special events and activities that promote friendship and harmonious relationships. All net profits from the event go toward annual college scholarships and community grants administered by the nonprofit Asian American Foundation of Oregon.

New Zone Art Gallery Grand Reopening and First Friday Art Exhibit

The New Zone Art Gallery will reopen at its new location in the Aurora Building on 11th and Oak. This was the former St. Vincent de Paul retail store. Music will be performed by TBA. Beverages will be provided by Manifest Brewery and Sundance Wine Cellars. 

Hours for the gallery after the opening will be noon – 6 p.m., Tuesday – Sunday.

POSTPONED Oregon Asian Celebration 2021

Due to Pandemic Protocols, this event has been postponed unitl summer. Please check back for new dates.

The 36th annual Oregon Asian Celebration in the Year of the Ox celebrates the theme “Strength in Unity” every Friday evening in May to honor Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. This free event features a Night Market at the downtown Eugene park blocks.

The celebration will feature physically-distanced vendor booths, cultural entertainment from dances to taiko drumming, martial arts, Asian food carts/trucks, a marketplace and windowfront exhibits of fine arts, heritage, and crafts in nearly a dozen windowfront exhibits on Willamette Street. Dozens of cultures will be represented at the festival including Chinese, Indian, Japanese, Middle Eastern, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, Filipino, Central Asian cultures and many more! 

The event is produced by the Asian American Council of Oregon whose mission is to create opportunities that foster greater understanding of Asian and Asian American cultures by presenting special events and activities that promote friendship and harmonious relationships.

Art Course: Creating Form with Light and Shade

This six week course based on traditional academic drawing techniques will give students a basic understanding of the tried and true classical drawing skills needed to not only create convincing graphite drawings, but to also enhance creations in any medium by encouraging observation and focus. Specific topics will include the anatomy of shadow and light, value and composition, types of materials, and specific graphite techniques. All skill levels welcome. Recommend for ages 7 and up.

Arts During Hours Week

Five local arts groups present a video each day featuring an arts activity you can do over your lunch hour. This includes Learning Breath Flow with Eugene Opera on Monday, spoken poetry on Tuesday, creative coding with Harmonic Laboratory on Wednesday, drumming at your desk on Thursday and a DIY choreography with #instaballet on Friday. 

Participants can take a photo of themselves doing one of these activities and post to Facebook or Instagram, tag ABAE and use the hashtag #ArtsDuringHours for a chance to win a $100 gift card to Marley’s Monsters.

“Land As Deity” Art Exhibit

“Land As Deity” is an exhibition of new installation artwork by Barbara Counsil. Five altars offer reflection and gratitude to wild lands such as the Mt. Hood National Forest and the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. Visit the Jaqua Gallery at the Emerald Art Center to experience the essence of these sacred places and leave an offering to the ones you admire.

This project was funded by the Springfield Arts Commission.

Learn about relief printmaking and print an original prayer flag at the show opening on April 9 from 5 – 7 p.m. and on Saturday, April 10 from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
