  • A FLOOD WATCH IS IN EFFECT THROUGH THIS MORNING FOR THE GRANDE RONDE VALLEY, THE NORTHERN BLUE MOUNTAINS OF OREGON, THE SOUTHERN BLUE MOUNTAINS OF OREGON, THE JOHN DAY BASIN, THE FOOTHILLS OF NORTHERN BLUE MOUNTAINS OF OREGON, AND THE FOOTHILLS OF SOUTHERN BLUE MOUNTAINS OF OREGON.
  • A PERMANENT RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER AND MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER. THE ADVISORY COVERS THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER FROM CANYONVILLE DOWNSTREAM TO THE CONFLUENCE OF THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER, AND THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER DOWNSTREAM PAST ELKTON TO LAWSON BAR. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

  • An Upper Level Low Pressure Trough (“U” shape) will help increase the frontal activity over Oregon. The graphics for days 1-3 show the frontal system that’s pushed through Oregon Friday and the next front sliding in Sunday. The graphics for days 3-7  Tuesday through Saturday show the frontal activity approaching the Pacific Northwest Wednesday and another next Friday.
  • Note: The Hurricane season has officially begun. Hurricane Agatha struck southern Mexico and fell apart. It’s remnants have redeveloped in the Gulf of Mexico and are headed for the U.S. Gulf Coast of Florida.

Forecast for the South Willamette Valley including Eugene-Springfield:

  • Cloudy with a good (50%) chance of AM rain, mostly cloudy and slightly cooler with rain this afternoon (o.25 in. of rain possible), rain to night (o.75 in. of rain possible),
