HEALTH ADVISORIES

  • A PERMANENT RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER AND MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER. THE ADVISORY COVERS THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER FROM CANYONVILLE DOWNSTREAM TO THE CONFLUENCE OF THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER, AND THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER DOWNSTREAM PAST ELKTON TO LAWSON BAR. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

  • The Upper Level High Pressure Ridge (“Arch shape) is moving eastward allowing frontal systems to bring back the rain. The graphics for days 1-3 show a frontal system moving through Oregon then another one between tonight and Friday. The graphics for days 3-7  Monday through Friday show the frontal system activity over the Pacific Northwest for the period.
  • NOTE: Looking ahead to the Memorial day weekend, so far there will be wet weather to contend with Saturday and Sunday then tapering off for Memorial Day itself on Monday.

Forecast for the South Willamette Valley including Eugene-Springfield:

  • Mostly cloudy and a bit cooler with a good (50%) chance of showers this afternoon with possible sun breaks, a good (50%) chance of evening showers, showers likely (70%) late tonight (under 0.10 in. of rain rain late at night),
