HEALTH ADVISORIES

  • A PERMANENT RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER AND MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER. THE ADVISORY COVERS THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER FROM CANYONVILLE DOWNSTREAM TO THE CONFLUENCE OF THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER, AND THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER DOWNSTREAM PAST ELKTON TO LAWSON BAR. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

  • An Upper Level Low Pressure Trough (“U” shape) is moving inland assuring frontal systems will move through bringing even more rain. The graphics for days 1-3 show a frontal system moving through the Pacific Northwest today. The graphics for days 3-7  Sunday through Thursday show increasing frontal activity through the period.

Forecast for the South Willamette Valley including Eugene-Springfield:

  • Mostly cloudy and cooler with rain today (0.50 in. of rain possible), a good (50%) chance of evening showers, partly cloudy and colder with a good (50%) chance of showers late tonight (under 0.10 in. of rain possible),
  • Mostly cloudy and a bit warmer with rain likely (70%) Friday afternoon (under 0.10 in. of rain possible), rain and warmer at night (0.50 in. of rain possible),
