  • LRAPA HAS ISSUED AN AIR QUALITY ADVISORY FOR FRIDAY AND SATURDAY DUE TO EASTERLY WINDS PUSHING WILDFIRE SMOKE AND HOT TEMPERATURES  INTO WESTERN OREGON.

HEALTH ADVISORIES

  • A RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR ALL OF UPPER KLAMATH LAKE IN KLAMATH COUNTY INCLUDING SHOALWATER BAY DUE THE PRESENCE OF A CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOM AND CYANOTOXINS ABOVE RECREATIONAL USE VALUES FOR HUMAN EXPOSURE. PEOPLE SHOULD AVOID SWIMMING AND HIGH-SPEED WATER ACTIVITIES, SUCH AS WATER SKIING OR POWER BOATING, IN AREAS OF THE LAKE WHERE BLOOMS ARE, AS THE MAJOR RISK OF EXPOSURE IS FROM INGESTING WATER. THESE TOXINS ARE NOT ABSORBED THROUGH THE SKIN. HOWEVER, IF YOU HAVE SKIN SENSITIVITIES  YOU MAY GET A PUFFY RED RASH. IT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SPECIAL CARE SHOULD BE TAKEN WITH CHILDREN, ESPECIALLY THE YOUNGER ONES, WHEN THEY ARE NEAR THE WATER.

PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

  • An Upper Level High Pressure Ridge (“Arch” shape) moves closer to the coast to keep our warmer weather pattern in place. Winds are shifting from the east which will bring hot air and wildfire smoke to Western Oregon. The graphics for days 1-3 show the weak cold front that moved through Oregon Wednesday. The graphics for days 3-7 Sunday through Thursday show more active weather patterns over the Pacific Northwest. A pair of cold fronts will be approaching from the northwest Sunday, then sliding into the Pacific Northwest Monday and Tuesday.

Forecast for the South Willamette Valley including Eugene-Springfield:

  • Clear tonight,
  • Sunny, hazy with areas of smoke, and warmer, Hot Friday, clear and hazy with areas of smoke Friday night,
  • Sunny and hazy with areas of smoke and very Hot Saturday, partly cloudy with evening haze, just partly cloudy late at night,
  • A mix of clouds and sun and cooler Sunday, then partly cloudy late Sunday night.
