PEOPLE SHOULD AVOID SWIMMING AND HIGH-SPEED WATER ACTIVITIES, SUCH AS WATER SKIING OR POWER BOATING, IN AREAS OF THE LAKE WHERE BLOOMS ARE, AS THE MAJOR RISK OF EXPOSURE IS FROM INGESTING WATER. THESE TOXINS ARE NOT ABSORBED THROUGH THE SKIN. HOWEVER, IF YOU HAVE SKIN SENSITIVITIES  YOU MAY GET A PUFFY RED RASH. IT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

  • The Upper Level Low Pressure Trough continues to push cold fronts into the Pacific Northwest and sending an Atmospheric River to us bringing the very heavy rain. The graphics for days 1-3 show more frontal systems moving into Oregon. The graphics for days 3-7  Wednesday through Sunday show more fronts headed for the Pacific Northwest.

Forecast for the South Willamette Valley including Eugene-Springfield:

  • Mostly cloudy with evening showers likely (70%), a slight (20%) chance of showers late tonight (0.25 in. of rain possible),
  • Mostly cloudy with morning showers with a slight (20%) chance of thunderstorms, a good (50%) chance of showers with a slight (20%) chance of thunderstorms and a bit warmer Monday afternoon (0.25 in. of rain possible), more in storms, partly cloudy with a good (50%) chance of  evening showers, mostly cloudy with areas of frost and a slight (20%) chance  of showers late Monday night,
