  • A HEAT ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FROM 6 AM TUESDAY UNTIL 11 PM FRIDAY NIGHT FOR HARNEY COUNTY, BAKER COUNTY, MALHEUR COUNTY, AND THE OREGON LOWER TREASURE VALLEY.
  • A HEAT ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM UNTIL 9 PM TUESDAY FOR THE EASTERN COLUMBIA RIVER GORGE OF OREGON.
  • AN AIR QUALITY ALERT IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 5 PM THURSDAY FOR CURRY COUNTY, JACKSON COUNTY, AND JOSEPHINE COUNTY  DUE TO SMOKE FROM THE RUM CREEK WILDFIRE.

HEALTH ADVISORIES

  • A RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR ALL OF UPPER KLAMATH LAKE IN KLAMATH COUNTY INCLUDING SHOALWATER BAY DUE THE PRESENCE OF A CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOM AND CYANOTOXINS ABOVE RECREATIONAL USE VALUES FOR HUMAN EXPOSURE. PEOPLE SHOULD AVOID SWIMMING AND HIGH-SPEED WATER ACTIVITIES, SUCH AS WATER SKIING OR POWER BOATING, IN AREAS OF THE LAKE WHERE BLOOMS ARE, AS THE MAJOR RISK OF EXPOSURE IS FROM INGESTING WATER. THESE TOXINS ARE NOT ABSORBED THROUGH THE SKIN. HOWEVER, IF YOU HAVE SKIN SENSITIVITIES  YOU MAY GET A PUFFY RED RASH. IT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SPECIAL CARE SHOULD BE TAKEN WITH CHILDREN, ESPECIALLY THE YOUNGER ONES, WHEN THEY ARE NEAR THE WATER.

  • A PERMANENT RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER AND MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER. THE ADVISORY COVERS THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER FROM CANYONVILLE DOWNSTREAM TO THE CONFLUENCE OF THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER, AND THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER DOWNSTREAM PAST ELKTON TO LAWSON BAR. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

A new Upper Level High Pressure Ridge (“Arch” shape) will bring back warmer temperatures to the Pacific Northwest. The graphics for days 1-3 show no frontal activity through the period. The graphics for days 3-7 Thursday through Monday show more active weather patterns over the Pacific Northwest. A cold front will push through Oregon between Friday and Saturday. Another cold front will be to our northwest next Monday.

Forecast for the South Willamette Valley including Eugene-Springfield:

  • Partly cloudy and hazy this evening, mostly clear and hazy late tonight,
  • Sunny and Hot and hazy Tuesday, clear and hazy Tuesday night,
  • AM haze, sunny and a bit cooler Wednesday, clear  at night,
  • Mostly sunny Thursday, then mostly clear Thursday night.
