  • A BEACH HAZARDS STATEMENT FOR DANGEROUS SNEAKER WAVES IS IN EFFECT FROM MONDAY EVENING THROUGH TUESDAY MORNING FOR THE SOUTH CENTRAL OREGON COAST AND THE CURRY COUNTY COAST.

HEALTH ADVISORIES

A PERMANENT RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER AND MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER. THE ADVISORY COVERS THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER FROM CANYONVILLE DOWNSTREAM TO THE CONFLUENCE OF THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER, AND THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER DOWNSTREAM PAST ELKTON TO LAWSON BAR. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

A very strong Jet Stream flow www.wunderground.com/maps/wind/jet-stream  from the northeast is sending much cooler air to the Pacific Northwest. A strong cold front www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov  pushed through the Pacific Northwest from the northeast (called a backdoor cold front) bringing colder air with it. It will take a while for temperatures to warm back up again.

  • Mostly sunny and a bit cooler Monday, partly cloudy in the evening, mostly cloudy late Monday night,
