A PERMANENT RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER AND MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER. THE ADVISORY COVERS THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER FROM CANYONVILLE DOWNSTREAM TO THE CONFLUENCE OF THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER, AND THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER DOWNSTREAM PAST ELKTON TO LAWSON BAR. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

An Upper Level Low Pressure Trough (“U “shape) moves in to return moisture and another frontal system. The graphics for days 1-3 show the frontal system moving southeastward through Northern California and away from the Pacific Northwest. The graphics for days 3-7 show more frontal activity moving our way Tuesday through next Saturday.

Forecast for the South Willamette Valley including Eugene-Springfield:

  • Partly cloudy with patchy fog late tonight,
  • Patchy dense AM fog, partly cloudy and a bit warmer Sunday, becoming mostly cloudy a slight (20%) chance of evening showers, showers likely (70%) late Sunday night (under 0.10 in. of rain possible),
  • Mostly cloudy with showers and a bit cooler Monday and a slight (20%) chance of afternoon thunderstorms (0.10 in. of rain possible), rain and snow showers at night (0.10 in. of rain possible, snow level 500 ft.),
