HEALTH ADVISORIES

A PERMANENT RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER AND MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER. THE ADVISORY COVERS THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER FROM CANYONVILLE DOWNSTREAM TO THE CONFLUENCE OF THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER, AND THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER DOWNSTREAM PAST ELKTON TO LAWSON BAR. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

An Upper Level High Pressure Ridge (“Arch “shape) is sitting right over us bringing sunshine and keeping overnight temperatures in the 20s. The graphics for days 1-3 show a frontal system offshore and moving down along the coast. The graphics for days 3-7 show more complex frontal activity moving our way Monday through next Friday returning the rain chances and raising overnight low temperatures.

Forecast for the South Willamette Valley including Eugene-Springfield:

  • Some AM clouds with areas of frost, partly cloudy and a bit warmer this afternoon, partly cloudy this evening, mostly cloudy late tonight,
  • Mostly cloudy and a bit cooler Saturday, mostly cloudy at night,
  • Mostly cloudy and a bit warmer Sunday, a slight (20%) chance of evening rain, then (30%) chance of rain late Sunday night.
  • highs 52-48 warming back to 52 Sunday lows 32-35.
  • Mostly cloudy with a good (50%) chance of AM rain, rain likely (70%) and a bit cooler Monday afternoon (President’s Day), rain likely (70%) Monday night,
