  • A FREEZE WARNING IS IN EFFECT FROM FROM 1 AM UNTIL 9 AM TODAY FOR THE SOUTH CENTRAL OREGON COAST AND THE CURRY COUNTY COAST.

HEALTH ADVISORIES

A PERMANENT RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER AND MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER. THE ADVISORY COVERS THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER FROM CANYONVILLE DOWNSTREAM TO THE CONFLUENCE OF THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER, AND THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER DOWNSTREAM PAST ELKTON TO LAWSON BAR. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

An Upper Level Low Pressure Trough (“U “shape) is slowly moving southward over the Pacific Northwest. The graphics for days 1-3 show the frontal that moved through Oregon.  The graphics for days 3-7 show more complex frontal activity moving our way Saturday through next Wednesday giving us chances of getting wet.

Forecast for the South Willamette Valley including Eugene-Springfield:

  • Patchy AM fog, a mix of clouds and sun and a bit warmer this afternoon, increasing clouds with snow and rain late tonight (under 0.10 in. of rain possible, snow level 500 ft. late tonight),
  • Mostly cloudy with AM snow likely (70%) (snow level 1,000 ft.), rain Thursday afternoon (0.10 in. of rain possible), evening rain,  rain and snow likely (70%) late Thursday night (snow level 1,000 ft.),
