HEALTH ADVISORIES

A PERMANENT RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER AND MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER. THE ADVISORY COVERS THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER FROM CANYONVILLE DOWNSTREAM TO THE CONFLUENCE OF THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER, AND THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER DOWNSTREAM PAST ELKTON TO LAWSON BAR. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

  • An Upper Level Low Pressure Trough (“U” shape) has not moved so it’s still keeping us with the rain-snow chances. The graphics for days 1-3 show the next frontal system headed toward Oregon tonight.  The graphics for days 3-7 show more complex frontal systems moving our way Sunday through next Thursday giving us chances of getting wet.

Forecast for the South Willamette Valley including Eugene-Springfield:

  • Mostly cloudy with rain tonight (0.50 in. of rain possible),
  • Mostly cloudy and a bit cooler with rain Friday (0.25 in. of rain possible), a good (50%) chance of rain Friday night (under 0.10 in. of rain possible),
  • Partly cloudy and a bit warmer with a slight (20%) chance of rain Saturday (under 0.10 in. of rain possible), partly cloudy with a good (50%) chance of evening rain, mostly cloudy with rain likely (70%) late at night (under 0.10 in. of rain possible),
  • Then mostly cloudy with rain Sunday and Sunday night,
  • lows 34-32 warming to 45 Sunday night highs 46-53.
