HEALTH ADVISORIES

A PERMANENT RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER AND MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER. THE ADVISORY COVERS THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER FROM CANYONVILLE DOWNSTREAM TO THE CONFLUENCE OF THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER, AND THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER DOWNSTREAM PAST ELKTON TO LAWSON BAR. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

An Upper Level Low Pressure Trough (“U” shape) is approaching the Pacific Northwest. The graphics for days 1-3 show no frontal systems moving our way. The graphics for days 3-7 show an increase in complex frontal systems moving our way Friday through next Tuesday continuing the rain chances.

Forecast for the South Willamette Valley including Eugene-Springfield:

  • AM clouds and sun with patchy frost, sunny and a bit warmer this afternoon, partly cloudy with patchy frost late tonight,
  • Clouds and sun with patchy AM frost, a mix of clouds and sun with a good (50%) of showers Wednesday afternoon (under 0.10 in. of rain possible), mostly cloudy with evening showers likely (70%), a good (50%) chance of rain late at night (under 0.10 in. of rain possible),
