  • A RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR AREAS AROUND EAGLE RIDGE  COUNTY PARK IN UPPER KLAMATH LAKE IN KLAMATH COUNTY DUE THE PRESENCE OF A CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOM AND CYANOTOXINS ABOVE RECREATIONAL USE VALUES FOR HUMAN EXPOSURE. PEOPLE SHOULD AVOID SWIMMING AND HIGH-SPEED WATER ACTIVITIES, SUCH AS WATER SKIING OR POWER BOATING, IN AREAS OF THE LAKE WHERE BLOOMS ARE, AS THE MAJOR RISK OF EXPOSURE IS FROM INGESTING WATER. THESE TOXINS ARE NOT ABSORBED THROUGH THE SKIN. HOWEVER, IF YOU HAVE SKIN SENSITIVITIES  YOU MAY GET A PUFFY RED RASH. IT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. THE ADVISORY COVERS THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER FROM CANYONVILLE DOWNSTREAM TO THE CONFLUENCE OF THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER, AND THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER DOWNSTREAM PAST ELKTON TO LAWSON BAR. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

  • The Upper Level High Pressure Ridge (“Arch” shape) took over bringing more sunshine and warm temperatures, but now we cool down. The graphics for days 1-3 show a  weak cold front moving through Oregon today. The graphics for days 3-7   Sunday through Thursday show no frontal activity for the Pacific Northwest through the period with a cold front going stationary to our north.

Forecast for the South Willamette Valley including Eugene-Springfield:

  • Mostly cloudy and cooler today, partly cloudy this evening, mostly cloudy late tonight,
  • AM clouds and sun, mostly sunny Friday afternoon, clear at night,
  • Mostly sunny and a bit warmer Saturday, then clear Saturday night.
  • highs 82-84 lows near 52.
  • Sunny and a bit warmer Sunday and Monday, clear both nights,
  • Sunny and a bit warmer  Tuesday, clear Tuesday night,
  • Then mostly sunny and a bit cooler Wednesday.
