HEALTH ADVISORIES

A PERMANENT RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER AND MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER. THE ADVISORY COVERS THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER FROM CANYONVILLE DOWNSTREAM TO THE CONFLUENCE OF THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER, AND THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER DOWNSTREAM PAST ELKTON TO LAWSON BAR. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

A blocking  Upper Level High Pressure Ridge (“Arch” shape) sitting over us has taken over bringing a heat wave. Low Pressure to our east is pushing against the ridge The graphics for days 1-3  show system, show no frontal systems approaching the Pacific Northwest. The graphics for days 3-7  Thursday through next Monday show a quiet weather pattern with a complex frontal system lingering offshore Thursday and then pushing through Oregon next Friday through Sunday.

Note: Sunday was a hot one. Record high 94 for Eugene and 95 for North Bend. Today Eugene hit another record high 89.

Forecast For The South Willamette Valley Including Eugene-Springfield:

  • Partly cloudy with a slight (20%) chance of isolated evening showers and thunderstorms (rain possibly heavy in storms), just partly cloudy with patchy fog late tonight,
  • Some AM clouds with patchy fog, sunny and a bit cooler Tuesday afternoon, partly cloudy with patchy fog Tuesday night,
