MISSION — Fire engulfed a wheat field in Mission on Monday, July 24, as a combine header caught fire during harvest and started a fire that swept through two different wheat fields and a conservation reserve program field, Umatilla Tribal Fire Department Chief James Hall said.

“The fire burned through harvested wheat, standing wheat, and CRP, which is a subsidized program where you don’t farm it, it’s just grass,” Hall said. “At this time, we don’t know how many acres burned.”
