HERMISTON — Hermiston has 331 acres of industrial land, but less than a third of that is ready for development.

“Just because you have ground or dirt that may be industrial doesn’t mean that it’s realistically developable at all or in a short amount of time,” Hermiston Assistant City Manager Mark Morgan said. “We’ve known for a long time that Oregon in general is really underserved in terms of large development for any industrial land.”

Mark Morgan, Hermiston assistant city manager, said a lack of wastewater facilities caused the Darigold agriculture company to look for other development-ready land for industrial development. Had the company chosen Hermiston, Morgan said development would have been along Feedville Road near the Union Pacific Railroad mainline, which remains open for development Monday, Feb. 13, 2023.
