PENDLETON — At the Eastern Oregon Forum on Tuesday, Oct. 10, panelists challenged the idea that book bans are black and white — all or nothing — and encouraged people to take action to protect intellectual freedom.

“Sometimes we think about banning just in the terms of, ‘No one’s allowed to read this in this (geographical) area,’” said Brittany Young, president of the Oregon Library Association. “And I feel like that makes it sound a lot more villainous. And it is villainous, it’s just not, like, Disney villainous.”
