MISSION — A timely water supply and other infrastructure had much to do with the present economic success of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation. One of the central figures behind that was Sen. Bill Hansell.

Hansell, R-Athena, announced in March during the Legislative session he would not seek reelection in 2024, ending more than four decades in politics. The tribes honored Hansell during a luncheon Tuesday, Oct. 3, at the Northwest Native Economic Summit at Wildhorse Resort & Casino, Mission.
