HERMISTON — Hermiston Police Chief Jason Edmiston seeks a supplemental budget for three new police officer positions this fiscal year to keep his department growing with the city’s population.

Currently, the Hermiston Police Department has 1.5 officers for every 1,000 residents and is budgeted for 30 sworn officers and four non-sworn support positions. Adding three more officers would raise the ratio to 1.65 per 1,000 residents. According to the FBI, 2 to 2.4 per 1,000 residents is broadly considered to be a good ratio.
